Curriculum
Academic Departments
Dalby State High School is committed to providing Best Practice in all areas of the school curriculum. Our aim is to provide a strong academic programme as well as a vocational programme that meets the diverse needs of our clientele.
Recent reforms in the area of Curriculum include linking Year 8 and 9 as part of the "Middle Phase" and Year 10 recognised as a transition and/or establishment year towards the "Senior Phase". English and Mathematics are essential core study areas for all students throughout the school. Science remains a core subject (in accordance with Science State:Smart State Initiatives) until the end of Year 10. Individual student choice plays an important part in the remainder of the curriculum. An intergrated approach to the Year 8 curriculum with core subjects of English/SOSE, and Mathematics/Science combining are offered.
As a school our focus is on choice and offering diverse pathways for students. Our aim is to help students take more ownership of their learning and to provide additional pathways for that learning. Senior Education and Training Plans (SETP) are negotiated with Year 9 students in Term 4. Significant initiatives have been implemented to cater for students who need either accelerated or remedial programmes including Personalised Knowledge Pursuit (PKP), Senior Preparatory Maths, Learning Support Classes, accelerated courses, modified assessment, choices within assessment and an Independent Special Education Unit. Dalby State High School has a wide range of Academic Departments.
